Rahu Ketu Story

Rahu Ketu is a very mysterious planet, both these planets are incomplete without each other. There is also a popular story on Rahu Ketu, so first let us know it: – As Described in Vedas and Puranas after the churning of the ocean, which Amrit was obtained, a dispute arose between the demons and the gods to get it.

So to resolve that dispute, Lord Vishnu took the form of an Apsara “name mohini” and started distributing the nectar. On the one hand, he was making the gods drink the nectar given to them, while on the other hand, through his illusion, he was making the demons drink only water.

But the demon named Swarabhanu understood all this and he assumed the form of a god and sat among the gods to drink nectar. But Surya and Moon recognized Swarabhanu sitting among the gods and told the whole story to Lord Vishnu.

But by then Swarabhanu had already drank the nectar and had received the boon of immortality .So Vishnu ji separated the head of Swarabhanu from his torso with his Sudarshan Chakra.

Hiranyakashyap’s daughter Sinhaka, who was married to Viprachita, Swarbhanu was the son of these parents. After the beheading, which had become immortal, Swarbhanu’s mother took him and started nurturing him lovingly. Later, was that head got the body of a snake and hence the name Rahu was given.

And on the other side, a Brahmin named Mini had taken away the severed torso of Swarbhanu, whom he used to follow as a son, Lord Vishnu gave this torso the head of a snake and it got the name Ketu due to his efforts and the results of his previous births as a devotee of God. That became a letter of devotion to Lord Vishnu.

Later Lord Brahma made it a planet. According to Vedic astrology, Rahu Ketu have been placed among the nine planets. It is due to the malice of Rahu and Ketu that eclipses occur in the Sun and the Moon. They try to eclipse them, After the eclipse, the Sun comes out of the cut throat of Rahu and the Moon gets freed from the cut throat of Ketu.

Apart from the eclipse, Rahu is also the reason for the change in the shape of the Moon. It is said: – That Rahu which strikes the Moon every day and keeps changing its shape.(rahu ketu)
